Teaching yourself isn't for everyone. If you're new to the Elliott Wave Principle, the basic rules from Frost and Prechter's classic book are essential to a solid foundation for your trading.
Nate Kautz is our newest instructor, and he'll teach a course in Minneapolis this spring (Learn about all dates and locations here>>). Each instructor will adhere to the meticulously designed course materials (developed by the head of our Trader Education team here at Elliott Wave International), yet attendees at each event will benefit from the personal style of the learning coach.
Here's a glimpse of what Nate brings to the classroom:
How long have you been using Elliott in your trading, and how has it helped you, specifically?
I have been using Elliott in my trading for the past 5 years to help me locate entry points for a trade (in the direction of the trend) and give me a probability reading on potential outcomes. The Wave principle is invaluable for determining how much risk to take on, and which financial instruments to use. It's a small but clear set of rules that give me discipline in my trading.
Why should people take the time to learn the Wave Principle before they apply it to their trading strategies?
You should seriously study the Wave principle before applying your knowledge with real money for several reasons:
- to understand what outcomes are possible to avoid surprises.
- to personalize and perfect your trading style -- Are you someone who likes to follow the trend or someone who likes to trade the reversals? Will you combine Elliott with other indicators, and if so, what is your strategy?
- to maintain a highly disciplined approach. It is critical to know how to objectively observe all the options that exist, not just the ones you emotionally want to see.
How will your teaching style help those who are new to Elliott?
The material for this course is adaptable to various levels of experience, even if you are an "absolute beginner" with no trading or wave background. Since class size is limited, we should have plenty of time for great discussions and networking opportunities. I always come away with new ideas from the classes I teach, and love to talk with students. I'm passionate about learning and thinking about things in different ways.
Please tell us a little more about your professional background and what brought you to technical analysis:
I have a technical background in software and IT. Perhaps because of my mathematical background in college, I have great interest in finding the "optimal solution" to a problem.
This motivates me in the stock market as a technical trader where I am always looking for a better way of trading, whether by writing software to analyze an idea, or by researching techniques used by other traders.
Dick Diamond and Mike Reed are two day-traders I admire -- they have very different, but interesting techniques. I prefer trading the e-mini S&P futures contract over other instruments. I love the challenge the market provides, and how it tests all emotions and improves character. It is the ultimate "game".
Nate looks forward to showing students a variety of markets from various time frames for both a trading perspective and a psychological perspective.
His experience successfully identifying wave patterns for years in a variety of real-life trading situations to you. Learn from his mistakes and successes, and gain knowledge that can't be found in any book.
