By Nico Isaac
5/17/2012 5:00:00 AM
Back in mid-April, natural gas prices were circling the drain pipe of a 10-year low. And, according to the mainstream experts, the "overarching theme of the market" was bearish to the bone. Yet, right around that time, both natural gas futures and the US Natural Gas ETF hit bottom and started to soar. Read on see how EWI's Energy Specialty Service had the discipline to stand against the bearish fundamental winds...

One of the biggest flaws of mainstream financial analysis is that it baits traders with a specific fundamental "hook." And once snared, they are forced to go wherever the reel draws them in, powerless to resist. If prices should go the other way (as they often do) the trader is caught. The Wave Principle, on the other hand, is founded on a number of key rules and guidelines that enable you to adjust your Elliott wave counts as price action sees fit.

EWI’s Energy Specialty Service cuts through "fundamental" muck to find the Elliott wave pattern underway in crude oil
By Nico Isaac

In the last 24 hours, I have seen more back-and-forth, back-and-forth action in the "fundamental" news stories regarding crude oil than on the courts of the Masters Tennis tournament. But don’t take my word for it. The following slew of news items capture the bobble-headed nature of the fundamental game. Read on for today's full story.

Over the last three months, lean hog prices have gone from “commodity on fire” – TO – commodity in the fire-roasting pit of a 15-month low. Now, imagine having the foresight of knowing from the get-go that hog prices were about to do a 180-degree turnaround? Well, today I’m sitting down with someone who did: EWI’s chief commodity analyst and Futures Junctures Service editor Jeffrey Kennedy.

“Tank.” “Suffer.” “Battered to a pulp.” -- these are just a few of the colorful media phrases used to describe the recent performance of silver. As of April 23, silver prices were clinging to the rafters of a three-month low. Here’s another word: “Surprise.” Fact is, for many mainstream experts, silver’s downtrend was not in the "fundamental" cards.

It's earnings season. And like they do every quarter, stock market observers want the answer to the ritual question: Will earnings drive stock prices higher or lower? The premise that earnings drive stock prices is so ingrained that it's not a question of whether earnings steer stock prices, but how will earnings steer the indexes. Here's what you need to know...

According to mainstream analysis of financial markets, root causes called "fundamentals" give rise (or fall) to turns in the market's price trend. But in reality, all too often changes in price happen first. Then, the mainstream experts swoop in and try to quickly adjust "fundamentals" to fit price action -- after the fact. This often creates a flurry of mixed information where the theme of one news story is quickly contradicted by the next. Enter: Soybeans!

Is That A Megaphone In Your Sugar Chart?
EWI's Daily Futures Junctures identifies a rare chart pattern in sugar that sends a very exciting message
By Nico Isaac
3/29/2012 4:45:00 PM
Right now, there are two big "fundamental" stories competing for the spotlight in sugar; the operative word here being "competing." They are: the bullish event of adverse weather in Brazil. AND, the bearish event of India approving one million MORE tonnes of sugar exports. With such differing reports, how does one decide which way sugar prices will go? Well, according to a March 28 Reuters, you don't.

Wheat Beat: Impending Breakdown?
EWI's Daily Futures Junctures warned of wheat's recent decline amidst the bullish chorus.
By Nico Isaac

If you had checked the mainstream financial "weather" report regarding the wheat market since March 16, the forecast would have shown a huge satellite image of an impending bullish storm. In the words of one March 16 Reuters: "The wheat market is bullish in general. With Chicago's performance, it's difficult for us to fall." Yet -- FALL is exactly what wheat prices did.

In theory, fundamental analysis of financial markets follows a one-size-fits-all formula. One positive news item makes prices rally, while one negative news item makes prices fall. In reality, however, this "one-size-fits-all" formula falls apart when prices move in different directions on the same news. Take, for instance, the recent string of contradictory GOLD news items listed in today's piece.

EURO-ka, We've Got It! Why the Euro Has Fallen
How and why EWI's Currency Specialty Service has stayed one step ahead of the euro's recent decline
By Nico Isaac
3/5/2012 2:00:00 PM
On February 29, the euro rose to its highest level in three months. And, according to many mainstream experts, the euro's rally should have continued on the back of the European Central Bank's allotment of three-year loans to banks. But, instead of finding immediate "support," the euro lost its footing in a precipitous, three-session losing streak before landing at a two-week low on March 5. So much for government "stimulus."

EWI's Metals Specialty Service uses Elliott wave analysis to reveal today what tomorrow's news will bring for gold and silver.
By Nico Isaac

February 29, 2012 was a calendar Leap Day. But for the world's biggest precious metal markets, it was Take-A-Flying-Leap-Off-the-Edge-Of-A-Cliff-Day. Gold prices ended the session $77 per ounce lower in their steepest single-day drop in six months. AND silver joined the rout with a near 7% nose-dive.

Hedge funds love it. Housewives love it. And now, pooch hounds love it. On February 26, the world's fascination with gold reached unchartered "terrier"-tory when the scene-stealing Uggie the Jack Russell dog from "The Artist" sported an 18-carat gold bone-shaped tag to the 84th Academy Awards. So, as demand for gold continues to soar, the question is: Will gold prices do the same?

"DEMANDING" A Clear Outlook for Crude Oil
EWI's Energy Specialty Service presents a compelling Elliott wave case for oil's near-term trend
By Nico Isaac
2/23/2012 11:00:00 AM
Trying to follow the recent news stories regarding the powerful rise in crude oil prices is like chasing after a straw hat on a windy sea shore. First the headlines blow the story in one direction, only to suddenly shift to an opposite course. "Fundamental" arguments can often make a difficult situation even more difficult. What was the "factor du jour" one minute ends up being "shrugged off" by the markets the next. Elliott wave analysis, on the other hand, can give you some objectivity in your analysis.
